I have a subject at university which is titled 'Technologies applied to advertising and public relations', the teacher is the same man who taught us a similar subject last year, all about Internet control and privacy.
Today we watched a documentary on Edward Snowden, former CIA agent and NSA system analyst, and how he leaked information about how the NSA have access to all digital and analogical information.
A lot of us already know we are being watched, I say a lot of us know, but really how many of us do anything about it? The fact that everything written if not on paper can all be seen quite easily, the NSA had such things called drones, what most of us are only just hearing of, these drones are floating around the world just watching our day to day lives.
This got me thinking, this control is only likely to get worse. When the documentary was finished, we were walking out of class and most of the girls were saying how they already knew about all this control, so I ask myself, why are we OK with this? Why does everyone complain about the control but do absolutely nothing about it?
The documentary tells us how this all started since 9/11, where the US government had the perfect excuse to tell people that the control was purely for anti-terrorism purposes and for their own good, makes you wonder if the whole 9/11 thing is what they say it is huh?
Am I even aloud to talk about this? I know I am getting wathched while writing and we are surposed to have freedom of speach. But do we?
This isn't only a matter affecting the US but worldwide, I recommend to any of you who have an interest in this matter to watch 'Citizenfour', it has received a number of awards the past two years and is really quite interesting. It takes us through the journey both Snowden and Laura Poitras (producer) have throughout the world.
