Think about your brain.

Have you ever noticed you are constantly thinking? Have you ever realised your brain, whilst awake, does not shut off? Probably only half of you have thought about this, probably the other half is now trying to think about it.

The reason our brains are constantly having thoughts is mainly due to our ancestors, we don't live in the world they lived in, they had to be prepared for anything. They didn't see the grass as just a bit of green flooring, they saw it as a possible hiding space for a predator or possible danger. They had to be alert, constantly.

Another explanation is that we are social animals, we have to be aware of our surroundings and the people we interact with, this is why our brain tends to create 'what if' scenarios, it has to be prepared for whatever case necessary.

You probably didn't even think about thinking but our minds are strange little machines, restless and constant. But of course, we can not think about everything, we must choose what we allow and what we don't and although we don't stop and accept or decline a thought, out brain does use a filter to do so. This explains why we aren't interested in everything, why for example when your friend starts talking about a famous fashionistas new outfit you automatically shut off, or why in class listening to your history teacher you suddenly start thinking about what you might have for lunch. This filter is created by years of influence, from our parents, our siblings, our friends and our peers.

It's no wonder we get tired at the end of the day and need sleep, it's the only time our body and mind can truly relax, although not for the full amount of time we are asleep for. Our brain is still active when we dream and on average we dream around four or five times a night, although we will only remember those dreams that woke us up.

Our brain uses up around 20 percent of the energy our body creates and yet only occupies about 2 percent of the body itself. It's clear how over thinking can become exhausting and how we should all pay more attention to what our brain is telling us. If you are constantly thinking the same thing, or your thoughts are impeding you from resting or concentrating then something has to change. We should think more about resting the brain and not take its ability to keep us on the move for granted. Be kinder to the brain, it saves your life more that you might like to think.

Something to think about.

What is technology doing to us socially?

This isn't an infrequent topic to read about in recent years, but it is definitely something I consider relevant to most and necessary to point out. 'What would happen if the titanic happened now?' This is also a question that many have posted on their networks, think about it. This image is probably the best reflexion or answer to the question. I am 90% sure most would be trying to take a snap of what was happening and make it trending topic! We are living in a time where people find it easier to socialise virtually than in real life, I must admit I for one have an account on many social networks, and use them frequently, I do not however consider myself to be addicted to them. I do not feel I need to check them every 10 seconds, but use them mainly when I am bored. A few days ago, I went out with some friends for a night out and there was a moment, or a few, where everyone was on their mobile, whether it was checking Instagram, Snapchat or their messages I d...

Who's the strange one?

I'm a very curious person, the sort of person who, if interested in something, will research every last details of this. Next week is the deadline for 'erasmus' applications to study a term (or more) abroad and I have found myself surrounded by people asking me all about it. I seem to be the only person with a basic knowledge on the subject in my circle of friends. As me and some friends have been preparing a presentation for one of my university subjects, we have been talking about 'known' bloggers here in Spain, I am supposed to give examples in my presentation and my friends have given me loads of names of people with 'funny' blogs or 'funny you-tubers', when I told them I had no idea who any of these people are they were shocked. They may know everything about insignificant matters such as funny videos but at the end of the day none of them have a clue about what they are actually interested in, for example, studying abroad. Some say I take...

It's not what you know, it's WHO you know.

I realise I only just posted yesterday, and never post this frequently but writing is the only way I seem to get anything off my mind lately. I have also realised how much I admire someone who knows what they are doing with their lives... I'm twenty one and have no clue what I actually want to do. How do you know? How can you choose one thing to dedicate yourself to for the rest of your life? When does it become clear what your 'calling' is? I have been told I don't know how many times that it's never too late for anything, but maybe it is. The thought of actually getting to where you want at the age of thirty terrifies me. As you know, it's finals time and everyone is at the library cramming as much in as possible. I was there the other day thinking how many of you are studying what you really want to study? How many of you are doing because your parents or someone else has made you? How many of you are actually going to give 100% to that future jo...
